Covering Letter Tips & Tasks
Read Appendix 3 and 4 in you Student Books (там есть примеры Covering Letters и необходимой лексики. Завтра на занятии мы это еще немного разберем).
Read the vacancy advertisement very carefully, as you will need to respond to all the requirements and show relevant experience and skills. (Прямо выделите маркером то, что требуется, и подумайте, как вы можете это продемонстрировать в своем письме).
Make a plan before writing the whole thing!
Introduction – здесь сплошные клише, они есть и в примерах, и в Appendix 4.
Qualifications and experience – RELEVANT education and experience.
Personal qualities and additional skills.
Say why you want the job (here you can include some info about the company that we were talking about during the class, as well as your career and life aspirations)
End the letter (“Best regards”, “Yours sincerely”…) – опять же сплошные клише.
То есть получается 4 абзаца + концовка.
Don't forget about proper execution («шапочка» наверху с темой и адресатом)
It would be great if you could use some active vocabulary in here. While writing this letter, you can actually pick some active vocabulary words that can be generally useful for this type of task and learn them to include into your midterm covering letter. For example “I am very passionate about working with children/global economy...” “My summer scheme has allowed me to put theory I learned in the university into practice, which has refined my skills and given me invaluable experience necessary for this job.”
So, guys, please, choose one option out of 4 that you like best and write a covering letter BY WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20TH!
